HEART TO HEART Blog Candy

WOW! I just cannot believe how big this got. As most of you know by now, I recently released my newest set through Gina K Designs called Whimsical Autumn, which benefits the Alzheimer's Association. My grandmother passed away in June from complications of this horrible disease and I wanted to try to help in any little way I could. I recently found out that today is World Alzheimer’s Day. The Board of Directors of the Alzheimer’s Association DOUBLED all donations given up until today so I asked Gina for some preliminary figures. After just two weeks, lots of sets have been sold. On Friday, I sent over my first commission--$450. So the first contribution ended up being $900! I am thrilled.

100% of my proceeds from this set will always go to the Alzheimer’s Association, but it was so much fun to send that first donation over. Here is the email I received after my donation:

Dear Carolyn,

Thank you for your friendship to the Alzheimer's Association. Your donation of $450.00 to our World Alzheimer's Day campaign is greatly appreciated and will be used to help fund vitally needed programs and services as well as critical Alzheimer research.
Your help is appreciated now more than ever. There are an estimated 5 million Americans currently affected, with another person developing Alzheimer's every 71 seconds ... By mid-century, someone will develop the disease every 33 seconds unless we do something.
Alzheimer's disease is an escalating epidemic due to our aging population. In fact, 10 million baby boomers will develop Alzheimer's disease in their lifetime.
Because of your gift today, we are one step closer to ensuring that more of us - our parents, ourselves, and our children - can grow older without fearing this devastating disease.

Sincerely,
Alzheimer's Association

So thank YOU! Because today is World Alzheimer’s Day, I wanted to do something special for another group of people who are affected by this disease---the caregivers. What began as a little idea----totally GREW! My hope was to get a few contributions from some stamping companies so that I would have a very cool prize to give away to one lucky winner who participated. AS you might have heard----the little prize turned into a GINORMOUS one! So many fabulous companies came forward and offered to contribute. I am so thankful to them.

In addition, I contacted a few WONDERFUL stamping friends to ask them if they would send a card (signed on the back) to add to the blog candy. Although I only asked a few people (and not my buddies out of the country because of the timing)—I had so many sweet emails and tons of handmade TREASURES donated by some of the best stampers/cardmakers out there!

So........ONE LUCKY PERSON WILL WIN OVER $1,000 in prizes PLUS ALL THE AMAZING HANDMADE GIFTS AND CARDS!!!!!!

I have been asked by a few people if I was planning on spreading out the prizes since it ended up being so huge….and I decided that I am going to stick with the original plan---that ONE person wins it all. Every person who plays along will receive a gift—the gift of making some person feel so special. But, I wanted this to be a big prize so that a lot of people play along. And, part of the fun of this blog candy is that whoever wins will be showered with gifts. I have a lot of them at my home and so the winner will receive a HUGE box from me. But some companies are sending out their own and many are gift certificates (as noted in the descriptions below) so the winner will be receiving goodies in the mail for a LONG TIME. How fun will that be?

***Before I get to the how you can win, I wanted to share that the Flourishes Design team all purchased the Whimsical Autumn set and are posting creations that they have made with this set today. Flourishes is one of the companies that donated to the cause and wanted to help generate more cards for this drive and so they took it one step further---please check out this link to see all of their fabulous cards. ((((Flourishes)))))

HOW YOU CAN ENTER TO WIN:
Because of the size of this blog candy, I am going to be strict about the rules! Please follow the all the directions to be entered. You may only enter one time per person but you can make as many cards as you want!

1. In celebration of World Alzheimer’s Day, we are reaching out to some amazing people who deserve to be thanked. ….the caregivers. Caring for an Alzheimer’s patient is HARD work and an often thankless job. There are so many people who help and so—I am asking you to make a card for a caretaker of a person affected with Alzheimer’s. Yes, you can send it to someone you know. If you do not know anyone to send a card to you can send it to the address below (this is the home my grandmother lived in for the last few years of her life. The nurses, aids and support staff there were tremendous. It is such a difficult job and I would love to see them showered with cards!)

To the Staff at the Artman Home
250 N. Bethlehem Pike
Ambler, PA 19002

2. Reread the donations above. I really want you to look at all the companies and individuals who gave to this important cause....cause they ROCK!

3. If you have a blog, please mention this blog candy on it. The hope is to generate as many cards as we can for those who could use a lift. If you do not have a blog, that is fine...just mention it when you upload your card. If you cannot upload your card (because you do not know how) that is fine. Just tell someone about this!)

Please, only one entry per person. In your comment please link your card and also list three companies and two individuals who have donated to the blog candy. Finally, be sure to link this post to your blog and spread the word! Don’t forget to include your email address so I can contact you if you win!

Your entry should look something like this:
Here is my card http://mycardrocks.com/ (FYI---not a real card!)
Three companies who donated are My Favorite Things, Gina K Designs and Flourishes. Two people who donated are Amy Rohl and Sharon Johnson. I have posted this on my blog. Cammie22@hotmail.com

Other important details:

All entries that follow the rules will be printed out on Friday, September 26 at @ 8 PM (central time) (MY GRANDMOTHER's BIRTHDAY). The entries will be printed out, cut up and RANDOM.CARA will pick the winner out of a box. (I will take pictures!) The winner will be posted on Saturday morning. (EDIT: Winner will be posted Saturday afternoon as I have an out of town funeral to attend in the morning. Sorry for the delay...)

I will not be posting on my blog for the next few days so that this stays on top. Everyone is eligible to play (even those who donated prizes.) The only person who cannot win is me.

Please note: By entering to win this blog candy you are agreeing to release your email address and contact information to some of the companies above in order for your prizes to be mailed. If you do not wish for your information to be released, please do not enter. One prize contains peanuts--please advise me before I send it if there is a peanut allergy in your home.

If you do not know how to take a picture of your card or upload it to a gallery or blog, don’t worry. Just make your card and let me know that it is made. I trust you!

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them on this post and I will be sure to check back often to answer them. ****Please note---most questions you may have can be answered by re-reading this post!

Good Luck! Thanks again to all of the AMAZING people and companies who made this possible.

It is amazing to me how one blog can be so powerful among friends and do so much for a good cause. I am sending my card today to the Artman Home. However, I have told all of my stamping friends about this blog. Three of my favorite companies that donated are Splitcoaststampers, Papertrey Ink and JustRite Stampers. Bless your heart Carolyn, your grandma is smiling in heaven.

I am going to send my card to my sister who is the caregiver of our very sick father. Without her we would be lost as she cares for him 24/7.

I am also sad that I don't have a blog to promote this great news you are doing for fellow stamps. I go weekly to the library to check out blogs as I don't own a computer. Have to wait until next Tuesday when I check again. I was glad you opened this up to everyone. Thank you Carolyn for giving us all a chance.

Three companies you mention are unity stamps, gina k, and my favorite things.

Two stampers would be Lauren Meader and Sharon Harnist.

You will make someone feel like they won a million bucks Saturday.

Wow, Cammie, this is just amazing. Here is the card I made, which I will be sending to your grandmother's care facility.

I am just blown away by the generosity of companies like MFT with the special discount and donations they made and all those sets from Verve and the Cats Pajamas and so many other.

Stampers are the best. Amazing generosity from Kim Hughes, Melanie, Joanne and all the rest. It truly is heart warming.

Thank You! I am touched by your generosity and all the donations you have received from individuals and stamping companies for this worthwhile cause. Reading all the comments has been emotional and rewarding
Alzheimers has affected our family with my father being the latest. My mom took care of my dad for about 10 years at home before he had to be placed in a nursing home. The care he received there was GREAT! We had another 6 years with him even though he had long been gone from us because of this disease.
I do not have a blog to post my card but I sent a card to my mom and to the Kelliher Care Center in Kelliher, MN thanking them for the special care they gave to my father. I am also sharing your blog information and worthy cause with the members of two card exchange groups I belong to.

It is so wonderfulwhat you are doing Cammie. And, so many have stepped forward to be part of this. My Mother didn't have Alzheimer's but she had a debilitating muscular disease that eventually took her ability to walk, control her bodily functions, dress or feed herself. My father spent many years tirelessly caring for her. This reminded me I needed to say Thank You again, and again.....

If this becomes an annual process (hint hint) please let me know. I'll see what I can offer as part of the next blog offering.

Hi Cammie---thank you for your work with Alzheimer's. It has affected our family as my father in law was diagnosed years ago. My mother in law took care of him until he passed away peacefully in his own bed a few years ago. I have put a card in the mail to my mother in law, just to thank her for taking good care of him for so long! We need to find a cure for this disease!! Thanks to all who contributed towards this cause! Thanks. Karen D.

Wow, what a fantastic way to bring awareness of such a life-changing disease. I don’t know if you are allowing international entries or not, but I wanted to thank you for such an opportunity anyway. I haven’t been personally affected by Alzheimer’s disease but have been moved by the stories of those who have. I did a bit of research here and discovered several happenings this week for Alzheimer’s awareness week. I plan on sending my card into the Alzheimer’s care unit of the hospital to thank them for their patience and caring for the patients they have. I don’t have a blog or anywhere to post my card.

Cammie: Without a doubt this has to be the most generous and heartfelt post I've seen on ANY BLOG - and what a fabulous cause this is for. Both my parents passed away from Alzheimer's and I can say first hand-anyone and anything connected with Alzheimer's has a SPECIAL PLACE in all our hearts. I don't have a blog and can't upload a picture but will be forwarding a couple cards out to the Staff at Artman House in PA.

Please consider me for this amazing blog candy-I planning on sharing this win with the many alzheimer's residents at my work during a planned Activity Event I'm hoping to host in November. I'm going to get a group of my volunteers together and we are going to work with our residents to do holiday projects and many of these items would make a great starting point for our needs. Thanks for making this opportunity possible for all of us. Kadie

My granddad was afflicted by what we now believe to be Alzheimers, but was undiagnosed when he was sick in the early 1970s. He was uncontrollable at home and kicked out of a half dozen nursing homes before my dad finally found a home where Boppa was cared for by a group of wonderfully engergetic and hopefilled nuns.

I think this contest and the story behind it is just one more example of the wonderful community that is built by stampers. All of you have inspired me to finally join up and start sharing. I don't have a blog, but I've posted my card to my brand new Splitcoast gallery:

WOW is all I can say. The generousity of the world is amazing!

This is such a horrible disease. My friends mother passed away this summer from complications of Alzheimers. It is a disease that changes a persons true nature so much that it hurts the caregivers. Geri was such a wonderful person BA (before Alzheimers) and to see the drastic change just made me cry everytime I saw her. My friend does my hair every month, so even though I didn't see her daily, I watched her downhill progress.

I don't have a way to scan my card, and don't have anyone I know to send it to, so I'll send it to you. I don't have a blog set up yet.

Three companies (of the very many) who donated are Starving Artists Stamps, Scor-Pal and Sweet & Sassy Stamps. Two individuals who donated are Denise Marzee and Laura Canale

WOW! What a generous bunch of people! I personally haven't known anyone going through this horrible disease, thank God, but I know I have read about so many people with this and it is so sad. I have already sent a card out to your Grandmother's home, (yesterday) but I didn't take a picture, Just popped it in an envie and mailed without thinking. I will probably send another, if I can make one tonight and take the picture and put it on SCS. Thanks for what you are doing, it is such a wonderful thing and to all the contributors also. Unity, Starving Artistamps, and Score pal, plus all the others. Cammie, there are so many people out there who will appreciate what you are doing. Bless you.

I have posted my entry at http://stampin-suz.blogspot.com/ and mentioned your blog candy there as well. The two people I blogroll all the time that gave cards to your cause were Beate Johns and Cambria Turnbow. And three companies providing prizes were Eclectic Paperie, Papertrey Ink, and Jacksonbelle Embellishments. You can reach me at suz.roberts@sbcglobal.net if I'm fortunate enough to win!

Thanks for all you do - I'm a big fan!

I am very sorry that I do not have a way to post my card, nor do I have a blog. I will be sending a card to a male friend who recently lost his wife to this terrible disease. What a wonderful caretaker he was. He commented to me that taking care of his 2nd wife who suffered from this disease was even more difficult than caring for his first wife, who he lost to cancer. I can only imagine, and applaud his courage and compassion.
Three wonderful companies who contributed to your blog candy are: Unity Stamp Company, Scor-Pal, and Polka Dot Plaza. Two designers who generously contributed are Cambria Turnbow, and Deborah Anton. Thank you for this opportunity to care for others. Linda ls4@windstream.net

Cammie,
What an awesome job you are doing here, and what a great support group you have donating.

I had a father-in-law in the early stages of alzheimers when he passed away. It was a mystery to the family until some of his other brothers started getting diagnosed with it eventually ending one brothers life in the advanced stages. It was sad to see and so hard on the family. I currently do not know a care giver so I sent my card to the address you provided. I don't have the card posted (as I do not have the equipment to do so and have no blog), but I am telling everyone I know about this.

Thank you so much,

The 3 companies I will list are Gina K Designs (where I saw this posted), Stampin Bella and Scor-pal. Two of the people donating cards are Cambria Turnbow and Beate Johns. The cards are outstanding and would be such a treasure to have.

Thank you again for bringing this cause to the front for many people to see.

You rock!!!!!

What an incredible person you are to allow us to share this giving to others. My Card is going to the caring people at the Nampa Care Center (their Alzheimer's unit) and I'm sending an extra card to the staff who also took care of my precious mother in the cancer ward. Both are tough places to work and deserve or praise and thanks. I listed your blog on my site at http://www.yuwie.com/scrappergal/ so I hope more will send cards from that. I can't upload my card because my battery is dead in my digital camera - go figure- but both are in blues and browns with a fall flower on the front. The three companies I'd like to list are Verve Visuals, Scor Pal, and Flourishes .. but all the companies and donations have blown me away. Two individuals I'll mention are Lauren Meader and Nicole Taylor. Bless you for your work for others. My email is scrappergal@gmail.com.
