Mine got off to a rocky start. Well, in the scheme of things...not a big deal. But the week was long and stressful and Friday .... well, read on!
As you know...we had our bathrooms scraped, re-textured and painted and some other repair work done. Well, we were really happy with the work and my husband asked the same crew to paint the top trim of our house.
HE picked the color (That is important to remember!)
I didn't like it, suggested another and he felt confident that his choice would work. I have been doing so much work on the inside of our home and was tired of making decisions so I relented (probably too easily!) and let him have his paint color. After all, it was JUST going to be on the top trim of the house.
My husband left for work on Friday and I was busy gutting my oldest daughter's room. I went outside at one point to move my car from the driveway and it was going well. The only paint I saw was on the top of the house.
I came out hours later to walk to the bus stop to get my kids and I almost fainted. Seriously.
While I like the coordinating color and the paint job....the only thing I can think of when i look at my house is that it looks like poo!
When my husband came home he was as surprised as I was. The more I looked at it the more it made me cry. (Not literally...I will go on record as not having shed one real tear on this mishap...not worth it.)
So, I figured I would share my poo colored house and story with you all just in case you need a laugh, a cry, or a "I am so glad that didn't happen to me" story.
Without further ado, I am proud to introduce my poo house to you: Jealous?
Here is a picture where you can see the color better (cause I KNOW you want to!)
Note the Beige on the garage door. Plan B is to change out the garage doors, shutters for a dark beige and the trim around the garage door a lighter beige. I am going to leave the top trim the poo color (for now) and see how it looks. It looks OK on the top of the house because of the shadows and it just looks darker up there in small quantities.
I will be sure to share pictures when it is de-poo-ed!
Hope you have a great day!!
I honestly don't see anything wrong with the color, but I also don't know what it looked like 'before'. I do know that very often when we 'repaint' it takes a period of adjustment to 'get used to the new paint color'. We tend to be 'shocked' at a new color, because were so use to the old color. So maybe before you do anything else, you should just give it some time.
ReplyDeleteYou poor thing, I'd let it go for a bit and see if it doesn't grow on you. It honestly doesn't look that bad, but if you absolutely hate it after a couple months....get it repainted. Just let it be a lesson learned that your hubby can nevery pick out paint again. I'd never risk letting my hubby pick out anything significant! ((hugs))
ReplyDeleteChange your thinking to rich and elegant. I like it. Let it grow on you and then if you still really don't like it, have it redone. Figure it will also fade some from the sun.
ReplyDeleteI always seem to hate whatever it is I paint right after I do it. But it eventually grows on me and it's okay. See what you think in a week or so. It may not look as bad as you think now. But it look on the bright side. Your weekend can only get better, right?
ReplyDeletelol....I can relate! During any and all remodeling jobs over the last 37+ years of married life, the thing that we have the largest problem with is paint colors. Thank HEAVEN for those little sample sized cans - I could open a paint store with colors we have purchased and painted a section of wall or trim only to wash it immediately OFF the wall or trim! If it is any consolation, I had a poo colored bathroom once, only it was a greenish gold shade of poo! lol.... I think your house looks pretty! Maybe the color WILL grow on you! Keep us posted!!!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen poo that color before- not even when the kids had diarehhea as babies!
ReplyDeleteI think it coordinates well and looks fine-but you have to live there and if it bothers you then you need to change it-
I like the rustic feel and beauty of the home with these colors! I would keep it
Just look on the bright side, Cammie. At least you didn't drop your toothbrush into the toilet, your goldfish didn't die, you didn't gain 10 lbs - all in the wrong places, your mother didn't forget to put a dessert in your lunch bag, and the secret decoder ring prize is still in your cereal box waiting for you to claim it!
ReplyDeleteMan, oh man, that certainly is a poopie sort of color, isn't it?
Seriously, I'm not seeing 'poo'. Okay, maybe, but only because you put that image in my mind. I do believe that irl it could be a problem, pics can be deceiving. *smile* Thanks for the enjoyable read.
ReplyDelete:) Funny story.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the giggle - but I can fully understand your sentiments!!
ReplyDeleteI am the 'colour person' in our home too, and although DH has objected at times at the first look at my picks, the end results have always been pleasing.
Bright side: Your garage door looks kinda like a Hershey's bar now ;)
ReplyDeleteI love it--I think this looks fab! I know it looks like the color of poo, but once you put some flowers/etc. around the ground and hanging/etc. it will look even better. It's so hard to find a color that matches well and that everyone likes--including neighbors! LOL! Can't wait to see what it looks like after you paint it again.
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely like a very milky chocolate bar (its on the warm/yellow side). I'm no expert, but what if you changed the brown to a darker (not warm/yellow) brown? Cool tone dark brown or a taupy brown? I like darks, as they tend to ground. It's not so bad, I cannot pick my own to save my soul.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand... this could be a belated Christmas present from Mr. Hankey since you've been such a good girl this year! Howdy ho, Camster!
ReplyDeleteBeige is sooooo ordinary, really everyone uses beige! Now a pretty brown is different and a bit elegant...goes nicely with the brick work...give it a chance, you may wind up liking it...a lot! Don't think poo...think chocolate candy - yum!
ReplyDeleteJan
Oh ww! You have a beautiful home. It looks big and I *love* the way that it came out. I'm sorry that your unhappy with the color but honesty I think it looks awesome. Maybe the photos are decieving? I hope your happy with the end result no matter what you do. :)
ReplyDeleteMary
ummmmmmm, yeah, as someone who has seen it IRL..this color? not so much
ReplyDelete(((((((((((hugs))))))))))
The color really doesn't shock me!... It's in small amount plus it will fade and age over time...
ReplyDeleteNow let me tell you, the previous owners of my house painted one wall in the bedroom with this lovely color! And yes it does look like poo and is just over my bed, no wonder those people ended up divorcing!... ;-)
This looks just fine and fits in with the neighborhood, as I live not too far away from you. I "might" eventually lighten the garage doors, but not a priority. Stop worrying and get on with your reason to shop, your new inside wall renovations.
ReplyDeletetoo funny! I colored the beams in my living room open ceiling the same exact color....now, in the shadows it is the most yummiest rich dark brown but when the sun hits it, it's like a milk chocolate - My first reaction was WHA???...I cried because I knew that my husband was not going back up there to repaint all 25 beams a different color. Eventually, I got over it and became thankful that it was done and no longer what it used to be (red)....Personally, I think it matches your house...just plant some pretty flowers in the front yard. Spend the money on fun stuff for the yard :) Eventually, when weathering happens, you'll be forced to repaint and it will be something to celebrate!!...sorry for the long post! Best of luck to ya!
