I Am One of THOSE Moms!

I am working on some cool Christmas presents that I want to share but cannot because my youngest is in my bed with an ear infection. So instead, here is a useless story:

I am officially one of “those” moms. The Christmas season is upon us and in my normal do-everything-the-last minute fashion—I haven’t even begun to think of Christmas shopping. Never mind that I have three children, seven siblings, seven in laws, my parents and fourteen nieces and nephews AND we are traveling across the country for Christmas….no problem. Ohhh…and I didn’t even mention my husband's family (oopsie!)

Every year it is the same story and I really don’t sweat it. My kids are pretty easy.

My 11 yo daughter submits a list to me and either has a list of gift cards on it or some other easy-to-find items. She is always thrilled with whatever “Santa” brings her.

My son’s list this year was short and sweet….well, not sweet, but short. His letter to Santa was “Dear Santa, I would like you to bring me a sword because I am good.”

Lauren (2.5 year old) does not care. She has her thumb and blanket so she is happy. Secretly, she is probably wishing that Santa’s elves abscond with her brother but otherwise she’s good.

So I don’t stress. Here is the neurotic thing. A friend and I took our kids to Chuckie Cheese. When we got there she asked if she could sneak out and purchase this HOT toy called “Fuzz Love” because there was a big sale at Toys r Us and her son (who is friends with my son) wanted it sooo badly.

Sure…no problem. Now I checked out this toy before….this is what it looks like:

And this is the write up---

· The more LUV you give, the more surprises you'll get! (I like this! I wonder if it works for adults!)
· When you pet me, my eyes open and I grow! (Hmmm…so this is a male toy.)
· I come with little Fuzz babies - which will you get? (I have my own fuzz babies so this is of little interest to me.)

· Talk to me and LUV me, and I will give you many surprises! (THIS peaks my interest…unless it is referring to the fur babies.)
· Collect all colors! (Yeah, make your parents buy you every one at $90 a fuzz.)

So these toys are retailing for over $80 dollars on Amazon and other online retailers….and the sale price was $30….hmm….good sale.

As my friend was leaving to go get hers I shouted “Grab me one if they have an extra.” Why did I do this? Well, I was panicked that this would be the “in” toy that my son would want and never mention until he says his prayers on Christmas eve and then tells me that Santa promised him he would get one. My son is like this. So I could see this happening.

So now I have this fuzz love creature living in my closet. It is sort of creeping me out…it randomly comes to life and, if you ask me, it is not at all cute. Definitely not worth the money it is going for.

Maybe I will sell it on eBay…or maybe I will pet it and see if it gives me a new Scor Pal or something. I LIKE surprises!

I will let you know if it works!

Phew! Glad I'm not the only one leaving Christmas shopping to the last minute!!! And that ... thing ... is awfully reminiscent of those horrible Furbys of yesteryear. My mom got my oldest one of those when they were hot (even though he was too young to care) and I swear it was possessed. It somehow got spirited away to Goodwill, but not after scaring me by suddenly making noise a few times when I thought I was home alone...

Can't wait to see your new projects! Be sure to check on my blog later to see what I made with one of the stamps my sweet ELF gave me! : )

If it makes you feel any better I have just ONE WEEK to get presents made for my husbands side of the family! Eeeeek!

I am sorry Cammie but your story brought me to tears I was laughing so hard. Why? Because who wouldn't want a little fuzzy love? Seriously, I would have done the same thing. The thought of him randomly coming to life in your closet is, I am sure good for some laughs! Did your son say.. hey, what do you have living in your closet???? Good luck with that!!

glad to hear I'm not alone. My kids just want a pile of Webkinz for Christmas, very easy to please! Looking forward to seeing what you have in store "project" wise.

Those are freaky little toys! It doesn't look cuddly - it looks like something to sit on a shelf an be stared at.

*Hijacking the comment to comment on Carole's comment* It reminds me of when I was little and there were those Ewok dolls with the glowing red eyes. My brother wanted one and wanted one (he was maybe 2?) He got it and it freaked him out so much he refused to touch it. It was in our house for maybe 2 days!

it's cute and scarry at the same time.

the only suprises I've ever gotten from furry things with big eyes have been poop hidden in a corner so be careful...

Well, usually, I'm one of those moms too....this year I actually have most of the shopping done for the kids, BUT!! I haven't started on making the teacher gifts, my christmas cards or any treat plates....so I guess I'm still in the club!!
Your story made me laugh...I think we've all "been there/done that" as far as gifts go (and I haven't seen that creature...hopefully, neither have my kids~'cause I DON'T want that thing living in my closet!! hehe

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with so much left on my "to-do" list!! Your story had me laughing out loud -- isn't it amazing what we'll do to give our kids a "good Christmas"?!? I have to say, though -- that toy kinda freaks me out! :)

i've about decided that you're a nut! but in a fun way! really! i would love to meet you and play!
(i'm a nut, too). don't pet the fur thingy too much, if it grows, it will want MORE attention (male toy, remember?)!!

I have to say that I am not one of those mothers but let me know if a scor pal or copics or nestabilities are any of the surprises you get because then it is worth the money you spent. TFS that story it made me laugh. Have a great holiday and a stamp happy day! Stacy

I'm still giggling over your story! Isn't it funny how we parents can get so quickly sucked in to buy those "special" Christmas gifts? Let me know if that Scor-Pal ever pops out.
