And....THIS is why I don't home school....

I try to be the best mom that I can. Sometimes I do find it difficult to engage a 3 year old, a 5 year old and a twelve year old simultaneously......luckily, I don't have to very often.

However, because the Olympics are such a monumental event that occur so infrequently I have been trying to make this a learning experience for my kids. After all, the events they are seeing now will not be on this large of a world stage for 4 more years.

We have been watching a lot of coverage with our children and engaging in lots of valuable discussions.....

Lauren-Gold Medal in Interpretive Somersaulting

Our very first lesson on the Olympics went something like this:

Dad: Every four years the Summer Olympics are held at a host country...and all the countries' top athletes travel there to compete.

Ben (5): Can I be in the Olympics when I get old?

Cara (12): No way...

Mom (interrupting Cara): Possibly, if you train very hard. Only a few people in the country get to compete and that is why they are so special.

Ben (5): Why are they in China....

Lauren (3) finally paying attention to the conversation squeaks out: Fra-China.......Fra-China.....I have a Fra-China.

Lesson over. Mom and Dad had to leave the room....

And.....THIS is why I don't home school!

I was cracking up when I read that and I am forwarding your blog to my daughter to read. I have spent the last year babysiiting 4 of my grandchildren. The youngest was 2 in Feb and is not potty trained yet. Knowing my sitting days were almost at an end, I took the kiddies to the DQ. After looking at their ice cream faces (14,7, 5, & 2) I ran to my car and grabbed the baby wipes. When the 2 year old saw them, she stood up in the booth and said "For my coo-coo?"..enough said!!

LMAO!! You are soooo funny Carolyn! I also just had to say - I have been "out of the loop" in the blogging world the past few weeks - I was about 35 or so posts behind on your blog before sitting down just now - eek! Anyway, I'm really moved by what you're doing with your GinaK set, and I'm off to purchase mine right now! You are a wonderful woman with a huge heart. I bet your grandmother would be very proud.
