HEART TO HEART Blog Candy

WOW! I just cannot believe how big this got. As most of you know by now, I recently released my newest set through Gina K Designs called Whimsical Autumn, which benefits the Alzheimer's Association. My grandmother passed away in June from complications of this horrible disease and I wanted to try to help in any little way I could. I recently found out that today is World Alzheimer’s Day. The Board of Directors of the Alzheimer’s Association DOUBLED all donations given up until today so I asked Gina for some preliminary figures. After just two weeks, lots of sets have been sold. On Friday, I sent over my first commission--$450. So the first contribution ended up being $900! I am thrilled.

100% of my proceeds from this set will always go to the Alzheimer’s Association, but it was so much fun to send that first donation over. Here is the email I received after my donation:

Dear Carolyn,

Thank you for your friendship to the Alzheimer's Association. Your donation of $450.00 to our World Alzheimer's Day campaign is greatly appreciated and will be used to help fund vitally needed programs and services as well as critical Alzheimer research.
Your help is appreciated now more than ever. There are an estimated 5 million Americans currently affected, with another person developing Alzheimer's every 71 seconds ... By mid-century, someone will develop the disease every 33 seconds unless we do something.
Alzheimer's disease is an escalating epidemic due to our aging population. In fact, 10 million baby boomers will develop Alzheimer's disease in their lifetime.
Because of your gift today, we are one step closer to ensuring that more of us - our parents, ourselves, and our children - can grow older without fearing this devastating disease.

Sincerely,
Alzheimer's Association

So thank YOU! Because today is World Alzheimer’s Day, I wanted to do something special for another group of people who are affected by this disease---the caregivers. What began as a little idea----totally GREW! My hope was to get a few contributions from some stamping companies so that I would have a very cool prize to give away to one lucky winner who participated. AS you might have heard----the little prize turned into a GINORMOUS one! So many fabulous companies came forward and offered to contribute. I am so thankful to them.

In addition, I contacted a few WONDERFUL stamping friends to ask them if they would send a card (signed on the back) to add to the blog candy. Although I only asked a few people (and not my buddies out of the country because of the timing)—I had so many sweet emails and tons of handmade TREASURES donated by some of the best stampers/cardmakers out there!

So........ONE LUCKY PERSON WILL WIN OVER $1,000 in prizes PLUS ALL THE AMAZING HANDMADE GIFTS AND CARDS!!!!!!

I have been asked by a few people if I was planning on spreading out the prizes since it ended up being so huge….and I decided that I am going to stick with the original plan---that ONE person wins it all. Every person who plays along will receive a gift—the gift of making some person feel so special. But, I wanted this to be a big prize so that a lot of people play along. And, part of the fun of this blog candy is that whoever wins will be showered with gifts. I have a lot of them at my home and so the winner will receive a HUGE box from me. But some companies are sending out their own and many are gift certificates (as noted in the descriptions below) so the winner will be receiving goodies in the mail for a LONG TIME. How fun will that be?

***Before I get to the how you can win, I wanted to share that the Flourishes Design team all purchased the Whimsical Autumn set and are posting creations that they have made with this set today. Flourishes is one of the companies that donated to the cause and wanted to help generate more cards for this drive and so they took it one step further---please check out this link to see all of their fabulous cards. ((((Flourishes)))))

HOW YOU CAN ENTER TO WIN:
Because of the size of this blog candy, I am going to be strict about the rules! Please follow the all the directions to be entered. You may only enter one time per person but you can make as many cards as you want!

1. In celebration of World Alzheimer’s Day, we are reaching out to some amazing people who deserve to be thanked. ….the caregivers. Caring for an Alzheimer’s patient is HARD work and an often thankless job. There are so many people who help and so—I am asking you to make a card for a caretaker of a person affected with Alzheimer’s. Yes, you can send it to someone you know. If you do not know anyone to send a card to you can send it to the address below (this is the home my grandmother lived in for the last few years of her life. The nurses, aids and support staff there were tremendous. It is such a difficult job and I would love to see them showered with cards!)

To the Staff at the Artman Home
250 N. Bethlehem Pike
Ambler, PA 19002

2. Reread the donations above. I really want you to look at all the companies and individuals who gave to this important cause....cause they ROCK!

3. If you have a blog, please mention this blog candy on it. The hope is to generate as many cards as we can for those who could use a lift. If you do not have a blog, that is fine...just mention it when you upload your card. If you cannot upload your card (because you do not know how) that is fine. Just tell someone about this!)

Please, only one entry per person. In your comment please link your card and also list three companies and two individuals who have donated to the blog candy. Finally, be sure to link this post to your blog and spread the word! Don’t forget to include your email address so I can contact you if you win!

Your entry should look something like this:
Here is my card http://mycardrocks.com/ (FYI---not a real card!)
Three companies who donated are My Favorite Things, Gina K Designs and Flourishes. Two people who donated are Amy Rohl and Sharon Johnson. I have posted this on my blog. Cammie22@hotmail.com

Other important details:

All entries that follow the rules will be printed out on Friday, September 26 at @ 8 PM (central time) (MY GRANDMOTHER's BIRTHDAY). The entries will be printed out, cut up and RANDOM.CARA will pick the winner out of a box. (I will take pictures!) The winner will be posted on Saturday morning. (EDIT: Winner will be posted Saturday afternoon as I have an out of town funeral to attend in the morning. Sorry for the delay...)

I will not be posting on my blog for the next few days so that this stays on top. Everyone is eligible to play (even those who donated prizes.) The only person who cannot win is me.

Please note: By entering to win this blog candy you are agreeing to release your email address and contact information to some of the companies above in order for your prizes to be mailed. If you do not wish for your information to be released, please do not enter. One prize contains peanuts--please advise me before I send it if there is a peanut allergy in your home.

If you do not know how to take a picture of your card or upload it to a gallery or blog, don’t worry. Just make your card and let me know that it is made. I trust you!

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them on this post and I will be sure to check back often to answer them. ****Please note---most questions you may have can be answered by re-reading this post!

Good Luck! Thanks again to all of the AMAZING people and companies who made this possible.

WOW!! Such a fabulous prize ... how generous of everyone who is participating. I do not have a way to download my card for you but I can tell you that just today I personally delivered 2 cards to my favorite caretakers - yes there are 2 of them who I adore. My Grandfather was diagnosed just 3 years ago and my heart aches as he faces this disease. My grandmother takes care of him and I have been sending her cards to keep her spirits up as she works so hard. She lived 2 hours away until just 3 months ago when she moved in with my mom. So my put her own retirement on hold so shce could financially take care of them both. I can see first hand how caring for someone else "ages" a person so quickly. I now send my grandmother and mother notes every other week or so (I send them each notes seperate from the other) and I spend time with my grandma and grandpa while my mom is at work (she works 40+ hours to be able to pay the bills for all 3 of them now). I take my children to see my grandfather all the time and it's so good to hear him laugh with my boys. They adore him! I am sooooo grateful for all that Gina K Designs has done for this cause and for all the others who work to find a cure too.

3 companies are: Gina K Designs, Taylord Expressions and Just Rite Stampers

2 people are: Susan Roberts and Jen DelMuro.

I do not have a blog but I so enjoy reading the fabulous art blogs out there. Yours included! Thanks for what you are doing. I am crying as I type ... my Grandfather thanks you too!! xoxo

Wow Cammie and EVERYONE who was generous enough to donate to this WONDERFUL blog candy. I just got this in my email and jumped on over to read more about it. I can tell you I am in tears reading this. Why in tears? Because I am the caregiver to my daddy who is 84 and suffers from Alzheimer. I wont make a card for myself...but I will make one to send to the home your grandma was cared for. So I will get to work on that tonight and come back to post it. Thanks to ALL who are contributing to this great blog candy. It's a WOWSER!!!

Cammie, I know you are not likely to read each and every comment and I am not likely to win. But by God's good graces if I do, I will sell all but ONE item in the entire package to donate the money. I have been in the practice of medicine for over 20 years and seen the devastating effects of Alz. on both the patients and even more on the families of those left behind. It is not often that you see a group of people come together in such a way. If only the rest of the world could learn from our example.

The overwhelming generosity of this community leaves me speechless. I cried through this entrie blog entry. What a beautiful thing you all are doing. I am touched beyond words. I am also kicking myself for not learning how to upload a card and set up a blog so I can spread this around. I will be, however, sending out an email this evening to many people I know for whom Alzheimer's has affected their lives. Because of you, today I have sent cards to the nursing home that your grandmother was in, the Pastor in charge of our Nursing Home Ministry at church, for whom this touches especially, enough that she has turned in her resignation because she can't take all the people she loves who continue to die from this and other diseases. I have also sent cards to my son's kindergarten teacher who is caring for her mother with the disease, as well as a dear sweet member of my church community who just found out that she has cancer AND is caring for her husband with rapid progression of the disease. I thank God every day for being 32 years old with 3 of my 4 grandparents (in their 80's and 90's) who have remained relatively healkthy for this long. I pray for all of those who are dealing with the loss of thier loved ones from this disease. I think it must be the hardest thing ever to have the physical body of the person you love with you knowing that the parts you love best of them (their stories, the quirks that make them special, the shared memories) have succumbed to this disease. I think that it would be like losing them twice- once when their mind goes and then again when they pass on.
A
I'm sorry for such a long post. I was touched when your set for Alzheimer's was released, and am even more touched now with this incredible blog candy from so many people. I would like to mention that because of all of you generous people, today I set up a 'craft day' at one of the nursing homes in my town for the beginning of next month. I will spend the afternoon making simple crafts with some of these Alzheimer's Patients and their loved ones. I've also set up with our nursing home ministry a "Staff Appreciation" and we're going to have cupcakes and icecream in 5 of the care homes in our town for them as a very small way to say thank you for everything they do.

So, for the blog candy entry:
Two very talented ladies who made cards are: Rose Ann Reynolds and Charlene Merrick.

Three companies who generously donated things for this worthy cause: Melanie Meunchinger, Starving Artistamps, and Scor-Pal.

My email address is: Diznedream@comcast.net

I do not have a blog or a way to upload picutres, but I am sending out a mass email this evening with the link to this blog in it.

Thank you Cammie. God Bless you and every single one of you genreous people for all the donations.

Thank you for all you are doing with this cause. My family has been affected by Alzheimer's three times in the last few years. My grandpa had this awful disease and passed away five years ago. After his passing, my grandma was then diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Grandma passed away this past April and her sister (my great aunt) passed away last Friday with Alzheimer's. My mom took care of both of her parents as they went through the different stages of the disease. It is very difficult to watch the progression of the disease. I am sending my card to my mom to thank her for all she has done. I do not have a blog or a way to link a picture of my card.

Wow. What a generous heart you have! My husband and I are the sole caregivers to my 93 year old mom, who loses her memory more and more each day. She used to stamp with me 20 years ago, back before it was such a huge part of crafting. She would LOVE all this, and although I make cards for her all the time, I'll be making a card to give to my husband, who so tirelessly helps me every weekend (he travels all week)and never complains about not being able to leave the house together. I couldn't do this without him.
Three companies who donated generously are Taylored Expressions, JustRite Stampers, and ScorPal. Two stampers who made cards are Beate Johns and Cambria Turnbow.
Winning all this would mean so much to me because I stay here all the time and stamping is my salvation! Thanks so much!

What an amazing reminder to celebrate those that care for others so selflessly.
My personal experience very closely mirrors another poster in that my great uncle cared for my great aunt until her death while neglecting his own health. He was afraid that she would be taken out of the home if he had to be hospitalized.. He passed away shortly after she did because of undiagnosed cancer. This card is for him. I chose “thinking of you” as the sentiment rather than thank you because this card won’t be sent to him but rather to his son to remember the wonderful man that he was.

Wow, this is such a wonderful, worthwhile cause.

I chose to send a card to my 91 year old step-mother who is wonderful and was always there for my father up till the day he died earlier this year. I also sent one to the staff at Artman Home in memory of your grandmother.

Sorry, but I don't have a blog to show you my card but it was made with sets from Stampin UP, Upsy Daisy with ribbon on the front of the card with the verse from HEard from the Heart, (kindness comes in many forms but always from the heart)

Three companies who donated are Gina K Designs, Verve Visuals and Splitcoaststampers.

Everyone who donated cards do beautiful work but the two people who stand out in my mind are Laurie Schmidlin and Bette Johns.

Thank you again for such a wonderful idea to raise money for such a worthwhile cause.

Thank you so much for sharing your grandmother's story. I don't have a blog or means to upload my card, but it just went to the mailbox. I chose to send the card to the local Alzheimers Association, they provided my grandmother with much needed time away while my grandfather had this terrible disease. It was so nice for her to be able to go to the library or grocery store alone and not have to worry about him.

Cards were donated by Susan Roberts and Rose Ann Reynolds.

Companies who donated were: Taylored Expressions, Eclectic Paperie and Papertrey Ink.

My Grandmother passed away from Alzheimers so I truly understand how hard it is on caretakers and to see my Grandma in this awful state of mind was very devastating. This cause is close to my heart and realize Cammie how it could effect you and all your loved ones.

I have moved in with my mother as her caregiver because due to this disease and other physical complications she can no longer live alone. I have been here since March. We want to keep her at home as long as possible so that she can be surrounded by the things she loves and while she can still remember some of them. We have good days and not so good days that bring tears to my eyes. She is often not the "MOM" I remember. She takes the drug Aricept which we need to get the drug company to offer this drug at an affordable price to senior citizens. Thank you for your work and support of this organization and raising awarness. I do not have a blog. My mother lives very rural so the internet is frequently down as it is now. I am at my BIL's trying to catch up on my e-mail. I am a subscriber to your blog and have noted the address you posted. A card will be going out tomorrow. Thanks goes to all of the companies who sponsors you and include PaperTray Ink, JustRite Stampers and Taylored Expressions. A big thank you to all the individual contributions as well and include Lauren Meader and Denise Marzel. I firmly believe that stampers have the biggest hearts and are also the most generous group of people I know. Darlene

Wow Cammie, this is awesome! I'm so excited that Caregivers are being commended for the work that they do for Alzheimer's patients.

This has hit home with me as I also lost my Grandmother 1 1/2 years ago to the same illness. It's really devastating seeing someone that you love and are so close to, not know who you are and act like someone so different than they normally would. It's my hope that some of the wonderful caregivers out there will receive some respect for the selfless work that they do. They really do need to be commended and you should, too, for starting the recognition! Kudos to you! :)

Lauren Meader and Susan Liles are two wonderful ladies who donated cards or projects to the cause. The following are three exceptional companies who have stepped forward offering lots of crafty goodies. They are Verve Visual, Scor-Pal and The Cat's Pajamas.
