PSA- Injury Prevention

Last tip of the year: When trying to unclog the tip of a dried up glue bottle, do NOT hold the glue with one hand and attempt to quickly jab your paper piercing tool into the tiny hole---Bad things can happen!

Exhibit A: My thumb
But, I am happy because:
1. It could have been way worse. Because of the way I was holding the bottle, the piercing tool did not go into my finger deeply (You can see the path right through my thumb--so it was pretty superficial!)
AND
2. It took me until the last day of 2008 to get a craft related injury this year! Can I hear a "whoot!"

Stamping is a dangerous job--but someone's got to do it!

Oh, paper piercers are evil! LOL! Congrats on making it 364 days, though, without a scrappy injury! LOL!

Ah yes...I've done that! And that is why my piercing tool is now called the "pokey tool of death."

Heal up...and have a great new year!

You are right, it is no small wonder that we don't injure ourselves more often with this crazy hobbie!.... ;-)
Happy New Year to you! :-)

I've so been there! Kudos for making it the whole year without a stamping-related injury. I wish I could say the same for myself! LOL Happy New Year!!

Man that must have hurt! ...and throbbed! I admire your quick thinking though by grabbing the camera and knowing blog fodder when you see it, or even when you inadvertently create it... I hope your thumb heals quickly.

I'm laughing out loud! I can't believe you had the forethought to grab your camera (and hopefully not get any blood on it!) Thanks for making my day!

LOLOL! Don't mean to laff at your pain ... and I'm so sorry you have an ouchie, but the way you wrote about it is too funny!

Well, you almost made it safely through the year ... some of us haven't been nearly as lucky, lol!

Between my Tonic guillotine paper cutter, my craft knife, my possessed paper piercer, and the misnamed "safety scissors," I've been bleedin' on projects the better part of the entire year. Good thing red's my color ...

May you have a happy, HEALTHY, and prosperous 2009, Cammie! And thanks so very much for all the wonderful inspiration in 2008!

~Hugs, Deb

I do the exact same thing and have also been injured!!!

All the best to you crafty Cammie!! Somebody does have to do the job and I am sure glad you do it.

I think you and I need to do a challenge in the near future. What do you think?

OMG, I just screamed and gagged a little at the same time.

Be careful girlfriend!

Geesh, my first inclination after seeing that pic was to giggle at the fact that it takes a pretty consciences stamper to risk potential tetanus in an effort to prevent future injuries to fellow stampers, but after reading all of the concerned comments, I'm feeling a little bad about that...so...

Hope your finger feels better,
Cams! :)

LOL, thanks for the laugh today...sorry I don't mean to be mean by laughing but I'm glad it wasn't worse. Any compensation for the injured party? Like more stamps???? That could ease the pain I think!!!

I did this the second day at convention during our make-n-take session! (Luckily, I had gotten a swap earlier in the day that was a mini first-aid kit that included a band-aid!!!) It hurt for a week. Hope it heals quickly for you!!!!

Ouch!!!!
I have tried to tell my husband that my hobby is very dangerous, but he doesn't believe me... I will have to show hime exhibit A! I fell victim to my paper trimmer earlier this year... I can relate.
I think a little Crystal Effects on it will heal it up! (they use glue in the medical field as I am sure you know!)

I've DONE that!! Owwwwwie!

...I'm such a clutz and injure myself more times than I care to admit. You know those "# of days injury free" signs that they post on construction sites??...my husband suggested I set up something like that on my blog just to show everyone how proud I am when I make it a COUPLE DAYS without injury. Haha! Yeah, he's a funny guy.

Cammie!~

Oh my word! At first i thought you just poked your finger and that was blood running down...(is that blood...? blahhhhah from the movie cheaper by the dozen) then i realized that it was a through and through...(sorry hubby is a cop..) OH man that had to hurt badly!!!! My hubby is scared with me around "tools" I do have my own table saw and other power tools..and he is for ever telling me to be careful. I once cut a huge gum ball for my son..with a knife...(round ball..slippery surface...do the math) and about cut the tip of my finger off...it was hangin on even cut through the finger nail! Have a lovely scar! So you be careful...and heal fast! Happy New Year! Renee'

Oh, I'm so happy for you that it was only as bad as it was - that could have been awful! Here's the mom in me - please be careful!!

Oh yes, the things we indure for our craft...the paper/body piercer, burns from the heat gun, slip and slice by the X-acto knife, attached to the project by glue, tired eye syndrome, brain fog, chair butt. :) It's a wonder OSHA hasn't gotten wind of it! hee hee!

Hope your thumb gets better quickly!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
