A while back, I mentioned that my husband and I are going to start entering a few road races again. (Road races= running races on the road/concrete) We used to race A LOT before the two youngest were born and both of us stopped because we didn't have to time to train and compete. We kept running...but training and "going for a run" are very different things.
Yesterday, we ran our first 5K (3.1 miles) together in about 7 years. We both didn't get anywhere near our old best times (minutes off!) but it was fun.
The temperature at race start was just hitting the 90s and it was humid but the course was flat and it was through our neighborhood so we knew the roads well.
I finished with a time of 23:53 (a full 4 minutes slower than my best time from years ago) but I was happy with it. I finished first in my age group (35-39) and won a medal that my son has now taken ownership of: Overall, I finished 14/111 women. My husband did well too...finished ahead of me but just missed placing in his age group (men are faster than women.)
Anyway, thanks for letting me share! I am glad that I am getting moving again. Competing is fun (before and after the race--anyway!)
Have a great day! I will have something crafty to share tomorrow!
Thanks for stopping by!

Great job Cammie!! I just got a hip replacement in early May and I am back to walking with my DH and BFF - we've been walking 4.5 miles a day and I feel great! Hugs, Harriet
WTG. Congratulations. I so would like to run a Marathon but with little ones its really hard to do..
~Chris~
Wow Carolyn 14th out of 111...that is impressive!!! Congrats!
Congratulations! It would be nice if we were all runners...maybe not!!! It's really nice you and your husband do it together.
Good for you, Cammie! My son is a runner and ran a 5K yesterday. He started running at school this past year. He works at the school's Wellness Center and got started there. It was fun just watching the runners come in. He is training for his first half marathon. It almost made me want to start a running program ,(I said almost!!)but I think I will stick to power walking. Keep up the good work. Preventive medicine is the best kind!!
Way to go girl. That's pretty fast for not "training" and running in the heat and humidity.
Congratulations, Cammie!! Excellent!!
Congrats! WOW! That is impressive!
that's AWESOME!! congrats to you!!

Congratulations to both you and your husband!
Cammie,WOW, you made amazing time. I am running my first 5K on Sat. the 11th. We did a trial run on yesterday and I finished in about 40 minutes, I couldn't imagine doing it in 23 minutes. Love to hear more about your running. :) Sarah
Holy Moley Guacamole! That's awesome you placed 14/111 and after so many years! I'm duly impressed. My little girl is also a runner and runs in all the local races including the Marine Corps Half Marathon, but she's 11. Me? well I'm the slug. My hat's off to you for an impressive accomplishment. You da man, Cammie!
Holy crapola girl! You ran three miles in what it take for me to walk just one! LOL!!!!
No, i'm not joking....
HAHA!
Congrats on your accomplishment AND to come in first WOW! SUPAH for you!
HUGS, Nicole
how wonderful for you, DH, and your kids......me, I'll stay on the sidelines and hand ya water any day.......my 'run' is to walk slowly with the dog.....lol...I'm not proud of that, but that's the way it is with my knees, etc.....believe me, the dog would go much faster if it wasn't for me....
WTG, Cammie.
Very impressive, congrats on your medal!!

That is a great time! Congrats! I think the last time I tried running a 5K (we are talking over 6 years ago) I only managed like 32 minutes! It is always great find something you like to do! Enjoy!
Wow, that is an 8 minute mile! Good job. Back when I was running I was really proud of a 9.30 mile so I am bowing to you right now!! I never thought that running would be soooo exhilarating but it truly is. YOu children should be very proud of you and you are setting a GREAT example to them.

You go mamma :D Heck, you'd beat me any time! Nice to be able to do something with your hubby again too. I miss playing ball and skiing but hopefully they will return in the not too distant future once again. Enjoy!!
Congratulations! What a great inspiration you are! :)
You go girl!
Congrats! You should really feel good about not only running again but doing so well. Sounds like taking more time for yourself is paying off!
Congratulations! That is so cool! I know that must be rewarding to get out there and compete and WIN in your age group!! VERY COOL! BUT, come run in North Carolina---it's only about 65-70 degrees at race start times in the summer----MUCH more tolerable!!! whew!
WTG, Cam! I'm so proud of you!!! And you did it in that kind of heat, no less! Geez!
Very cool! Congrats on your medal. Now if your DS take ownership that is fine.. taking credit is a little iffy.... lol
Congrats on your awesome finish! I can't imagine running competitively. Actually, I can't imagine running at all! I do walk six days a week, though. (And in my younger days, we walked five miles in an hour.)
Holy Running SHoes Batman! You go girl!!! I'm sending you all kinds of high fives from San Antonio! That's awesome Cammie..
Good for you!!! (tho there is a part of me that could hate you for being able to run that speed in the heat, without really training.....(wink). Even when I ran, running was never "my thing", except for running off road. For some reason, running more of a cross country style in the mountains or hills just did it for me (hmmmm.....must be that mountain thing....prefer mountain biking vs road riding too!!)
Congrats again!!
Good for you, Cammie! I'd like to run again some day, too!!
Congratulations Cammie!! Good for you!!..oh gosh and in that heat!!
I'm a daily walker (hubby has joined me now too)...and we use to be avid cross country skiers in the winter....We are hoping to get back into it this winter...You're very inspiring girl!!..Hugs, Ila
WOW - Cammie - Congrats and what an achievement!!! You rock - GF!!!
Congrats to you!!! SOunds like you'll be back up to your best time soon!!!!

That's awesome Carolyn. It takes me that long to walk 1 mile. :o) I look forward to reading about future races.
Wow! Congratulations, Cammie! That is wonderful that you decided to come back to racing!
WAY TO GO - that's awesome!!!
THat is so great! DH and I were into biking before we had children. We are now getting back into it and we biked 50 mile to Herman Mo and 50 miles back on the Katy Trail last weekend. We stayed at a B&B and had a nice dinner at a winery. It was a wonderful two days! It is a great thing to stay active as we get older.
you're amazing!!!!
Fabulous! You would have passed me! :) CONGRATS!! When you move next door we can run together! :)
