Down but not OUT

Well, for those who remember…I posted about a month ago on facebook that I was going to take the plunge and try out for the Bella Blvd design team.  I did it to keep me from chickening out.  If I told everyone on facebook…I HAD to go through with it…right?  (giggle!)

I had given myself the creative challenge to get on a paper design team this year and time was ticking away when I saw this call.  Now…I am limited because there are only about 5 paper companies that I actually feel like I could do a good job promoting or whose style fits mine.  So…I was excited to see this call because I love Bella Blvd’s bright colorful and whimsical designs.

Well, yesterday was the call backs and guess who did NOT get a call back. Yep…pointing those thumbs right back at me.  While I am disappointed, I am not crushed.

I KNOW there will be other calls.  But, I did want to share this because so many times I have heard from people "well, that company will just send it to you" or "I bet you just get everything for free."  Definitely not the case!  And I definitely have my share of disappointment.  The key is not giving up :)

I am sooo blessed to have made The Twinery and SRM Stickers design team this year and I am so fortunate to work with the best stamp companies out there.  And, I know I am not horrible designer…just not the right fit for them.

As frustrating as it is---there are more important things in life and it keeps me striving for that ever elusive goal of working on a paper design team.  It will happen….someday :)....  I think!

Thanks for stopping by!

Carolyn, all I can say is WOW and it's totally their loss!!!! You ROCK in everything you do, and while I know it's disappointing not to hear back with a YES, I also love your attitude. Keep creating...never know the reason why you didn't get the call, perhaps something much better is waiting for you! Hugs to you.... and I am a huge fan and certainly know I am not alone....LOL....sending lots of LOVE!

Exactly Carolyn!! Disappointments come with this paper crafting "thing" and it is sad when things you had hoped for don't pan out... However, you design for some fabulous companies and for "now" the time wasn't right for Bella Blvd. (and I agree they have some AMAZING lines...)...however, keep persevering and keep your chin up. Grab some chocolate...a latte and do something fun :) HUGS and LOVE your attitude!!!

Thanks for the great post girlie! And what a great attitude about not making the team. (I have not made teams I tried out for as well and it does suck).
Your work is top notch, so maybe your style was represented with another designer? Who knows? But we do know that more than talent comes into play with deciding these teams. You are amazing!! Honestly, every time I haven't made a team something even better was around the corner. So this could be a blessing in disguise! {{{hugs}}}

Cammie, nobody rocks paper like you do. You're in a class all your own. Holy cow, they're crazy. I'm pretty sure you are too advanced for them to recognize your mad talent. Love your attitude and generosity in sharing your experience. Hugs!

I applied to their call and did not make it either. I think this is a fabulous post and it will happen!!:)

Cammie, I am so shocked that they didn't just grab you up in a heartbeat! You are, indeed, a fabulous designer - everything you create just stands out, as Theresa says "in a class all your own". I'm sorry that you didn't get the call back...it must mean that something much better is just around the corner for you! Hugs and blessings...

I'm so sorry.

You are an awesome crafter and would be an asset to any DT.

Sorry you didn't make the team but all your musings are great! I never thought I'd make any kind of design team and I've made several. They have been stamping teams and not paper but that's okay. There is plenty of time left. Your attitude is what's important! And you excel with a positive attitude! Hugs to you!

Thanks for sharing this. Sometimes one feels like they are the only one being rejected from a DT call! All the same, I can't believe they didn't pick you. Their loss. Next year go get 'em!

Aw Cammie! I'm so sorry that you didn't make the team! But your post is very inspirational! Yes, you can have a pity party, but then, pull yourself up by your bootstraps and keep striving on! You are a fantastic designer! And like this famous cliche, "When one door closes, another one opens!"
{hugs}

Hey Cammie, Sorry to hear the news. I might as well admit that I also tried out and did not get "a call back". I was hoping that maybe, just maybe, they just hadn't made their decisions yet since no announcement has shown up but they are probably just waiting to announce it. There will be other things that come up that might just be a better fit anyway. You never know. I am trying to look at the positive side too. When one door closes another always opens up and all that. Have a great weekend and get busy creating things!!
xoxo, Christine

I wouldn't give up hope just yet. I don't have any news for you, but I thought I didn't make the Pebbles team because I hadn't heard any news. Turned out they made offers later than they anticipated. You never know. You are an awesome designer. Love your work and all those projects published in last month's Card Maker! Keeping my fingers crossed for you! :)

Oh Cammie, I can relate. I didn't apply to Bella Boulevard because I'm still feeling a pinch of prior rejection from a different try-out. I too blogged about my sense of inadequacy; if you'd like, you can read about it here: http://www.cardmonkeyspaperjungle.com/2012/01/i-am-secure-enough-to-admit-i-am.html

I'm tiptoeing back into the water again with a different company, deadline tomorrow. I think I'll steel myself differently and just be SHOCKED if I get picked.

Incidentally, I'll relate what I thought was a VERY strange incident with a DT (to remain unnamed). An online store's DT company owner literally BEGGED me to apply to her DT. I did. And I had really worked to promote her company and spent my crafting budget with her store almost exclusively, and guided her product selection, etc. Imagine my SURPRISE when I was rejected. I felt even goaded to apply! I took that one VERY personally and have learned that when it comes down to it, this is nothing but paper and glue anyway.

Well, good luck to you -- and I hope that if you and I continue to get rejected (LOL!!!), we'll form our own DT where the qualifications are that you must have applied and been rejected by at least 3 companies, HAHA!!

Fondly,
Ellen ♥ CardMonkey

Love you attitude Carolyn and love that you are on the SRM Design team. You're the best!

You might be the right person but at a later time. So keep trying!

I appreciate you sharing this with us. I think that a lot of crafters are too critical of their own work and don't apply for design teams... or they give up if they don't get it. It's good to know that not everybody gets onto a design team the first try. You are so talented and loved. Sending you {{{hugs}}}

Bummer that you weren't chosen, Cammie. Better luck next time - you certainly deserve to be chosen!!

Thanks for this post. I really appreciate it... I guess I assumed you just got everything you applied for because you are so fabulous! I've applied for several DTs and missed them but have got a few so it's a good lesson to stay positive Whatever is meant to be, is meant to be. You are an amazing crafter and it's definitely their loss! Hugs - XO

Sorry you didn't make it Carolyn, their loss. I didn't make it either.

WHAAATTT?!
I'm sorry you didn't make the team, but I'm glad you shared that fact. It is easy to think that just the popular designers get picked for the DT's every time they try out. It is nice (for us mere mortals) to realize that you get "thanks, but no thanks" too.

And I really appreciate that you consider if you'd be a good fit for a company. It shows that you take it seriously, not just as another line on your resume!

Aww, Cammmie! Don't be disappointed - you are a fabulous designer. I wish I had a tenth of your talent! The time WILL come!
