Kindred Spirits
We are different, yet the same.
We are different, yet the same.
We are proud of who we are and we respect one another.
We find hope in each other's children.
We see the love in their eyes.
We laugh at the same jokes.
We don't take ourselves too seriously.
We are friends.
We are connected.
We are kindred spirits.
I designed this card with the following story in mind. The bottom part of the card opens to reveal the "Happy Mother's Day" message. (Sorry, these colors did not photograph well--just look at the adorable image--heee!)
Here is the card as it is opened (On this one you can see the dimension of the main image--I layered the stamped image and elevated it at certain points so the image has a lot of depth):
And here is a picture of the inside:

"My name is Anna. I live in Florida, near South Beach. Maybe you've heard of the South Beach Diet? That started here because we all spend a lot of time on the beach. The beach is great, it's the bathing suit part that I'm not crazy about. This new baby has changed my body a little bit but he's so worth it. For my birthday, my Mom and my 2 sisters chipped in to buy me this baby runner so now I can try to get a little exercise in and still play Mommy at the same time.
My Mom is from Puerto Rico and only speaks Spanish to my little guy to help him be bi-lingual. We get to go to Puerto Rico twice a year because my cousins all live there and I can't wait to take the baby this year and show him off to my family! The best part about visiting Puerto Rico is the food. (Should I even be thinking about food when I'm trying to exercise my baby weight off?)
My cousin Maria makes the BEST Arroz con Pollo con Esparragos y Estragon! That means Chicken and Rice with Asparagus and Tarragon. Actually, it's a pretty healthy meal too!"
Chicken and Rice with Asparagus and Tarragon
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons corn oil
2 ounces ham, cut into small dice
4 chicken thighs, skinned, boned, and cut into strips
1 medium red bell pepper, seeded and sliced
2 tablespoons fresh tarragon leaves, minced, or 2 teaspoons dried
1 cup tomato sauce
2-1/2 cups long-grain rice
4 to 4-1/2 cups chicken stock or canned chicken broth
1/2 pound fresh asparagus spears, blanched, for garnish
Directions:
Heat the oil in a large saucepan. Add the ham and chicken and saute until the chicken is browned, about 5 minutes. Add the bell pepper and saute for another 2 minutes. Add the tarragon and tomato sauce and bring to a simmer. Add the rice and chicken stock and bring to a boil. Cover, reduce the heat, and simmer until the rice is tender, 20 to 25 minutes. Garnish with the asparagus and serve.

The Kindred Spirits stamps were designed by Gina K. and will be available at her store at 1 minute past midnight on April 10th.
The fabulous concept is that you choose what you want your main image to look like--there are lots of different ones to choose from and they all have different, but realistic, characteristics. So, you CHOOSE which images work best for you. There is a matching tin of sentiments that go with those images and can be used with many images you already have. All stamps are made of deeply etched rubber on cling vinyl, ready to be trimmed and used with acrylic blocks.
Throughout this blogland journey...you will see many of those images and lots of different stories that connect all of these women...
