Countdown to Christmas Calendar

Yesterday, I had this project on the SRM Stickers blog.  I figured I would share it on here as well.  It is a "Count Down to Santa" Calendar...a fun way to count down the days until Christmas with your kids. I wanted to keep the supply list fairly simple so I used one paper collection (This & That: Christmas by Echo Park), The Twinery baker's twine, and SRM stickers. The base of the calendar is a tray (7 Gypsies) that I covered with paper. I covered the handle with twine and I added SRM sentiment strips along the top of the paper. I used craft tins that I found at my local craft store to serve as treat holders. I actually adhered these directly to the tray so that you can only remove the lid. I thought it might be easier than Velcro as far as long term durability. (My son would tear them right off if he knew candy was involved and I doubt they would survive more than one holiday!)

Each tin is embellished with stickers and paper from the same collection and then I added the SRM We've Got Your Number-Large stickers to each tin for each day. I added other SRM stickers onto some of the tins (for example, the "Jolly" on the 3rd, the "Happy" on the 10th, the "Merry" on the 13th and "Joy" on the 19th. They are all from the Say It with Stickers - Christmas sheet.

Here is how the tins work...you just lift the lid of the day you are on and take out the treat (or, in our case, the slip of paper that tells you where to look for a clue; I leave clues all around the house leading up to the final spot that is the treat!) The kids really look forward to finding the hidden surprise!"

Hope you enjoyed this project! Don't forget to leave a comment on my giveaway post below this one! You have until Sunday to leave a comment! Have a great weekend!

Thanks for stopping by!

What a fun project!! I am sooo impressed that you don't just leave a little treat in the jars, but actually create a fun scavenger hunt for the treat (uhhh...so NOT happening at my house, LOL!!)

What a fun project, Cammie, and I love that you thought about it for years to come when you made it. Good thinking! Those little things are just so fun, and really create memories that will be treasured throughout life. My parents hid our Easter baskets (with clues along the way), all the way into our late teens, and it was always so fun looking forward to finding them.

I love it! I have always loved Advent calendars and I wanted to make one and send it to my kids after they moved out. So far I haven't done that. But this is so cool. Love getting a little surprise every day!

That is really cute. You do a treasure hunt every day? Go, Mom! That's a lot of work for you, but totally fun for the kids.
