SRM Wedding Ensemble

Hi there! Today I have a post up on the SRM blog :)  It's my birthday so you really should go check it out!  

Fine.....here it is:   I created a wedding set using SRM tubes and stickers:

 Here is the card:

I used the Swoon collection (Little Yellow Bicycle) on the bottom of the card.  I layered the SRM sticker on some cardstock and then matted it over a cardboard frame (LYB).  I added the ribbon pleated embellishment (LYB), some stick pins (LYB), the felt flower and a rub on.  The white SRM sentiment along the bottom was offset by some rhinestones.  I finished by inking all edges with Tea Dye Distress ink.

And here are the tubes, dressed in their finest attire:

 

For the tubes, I used two different Silhouette files.  The dress file was actually to make a dress box but I ended up altering it (excuse the pun!) to make it just a dress.  I cut it with my silhouette and then embossed it with the Textile embossing folder (Cuttlebug; Provocraft) and then sponged over the pattern with Antique Lined distress ink (Ranger) and then I added some pearls.  I cut the tux out using black, silver and white cardstock.  I rolled some Marachino baker's twine (The Twinery) to create a little rose boutonniere for the tuxedo.   I filled the tubes with some candies and then added some stickers along the bottom.

A Heart FELT Valentine tutorial

Hello!!! Today I have a little Valentine project /tutorial to share with you. This is the finished project hanging right above my "severely underused double oven."

Just a little something I came up with the other day and figured I would share the process as I made it.

Materials you will need:

Styrofoam heart (Floracraft)

Rolled Flower Die (My Favorite Things)

Cuttlebug (Provocraft)

Paper Piercing tool

Glue (I used Fabri-Tac by Beacon Adhesives)

Pearl strands (in wedding aisle of craft stores)

Felt - (The felt I used on this project is (pink) Michael's- Creatology and (white) from Papertrey. I can also recommend the felt from My Favorite Things. They all cut very nicely with this die.)

Seam binding or ribbon (I used Seam binding)

Scissors (Tim Holtz)

Other Items to Embellish heart-

Element Stickers by Echo Park Paper Co. (Little Girl Line )

Step one: Adhere the ribbon or seam binding on the back of the heart using glue as shown. This will be used to hang the heart.

Step two: Die cut the rolled flowers by placing the die face down on the felt. (If you are using a Cuttlebug--You will have the thick bottom plate then the C Plate then the felt square, then the die face down and then the B plate).

Step three: Run the stack through the machine.

Note: You will need to repeat this process many times. I didn't count how many flowers I used on mine but I ended up doing three sets of flowers. Just came back to this step until I had enough flowers to cover the heart.

To pass the time, I cut all the felt flowers then watched television while rolling them up!

Step four: After you have all your die cuts, you can begin rolling your flowers. (You can always go back and make more flowers if you are short!)

First separate the felt.

Step five: Begin rolling the flower as shown.

When you are finished rolling the flower, this is what it will look like:

Step six: Using a paper piercing tool, poke a hole through the center of the rolled flower. (Note: Wiggle the tool around a bit so the hole widens...makes the next step much easier!)

I found these double ended pearl accents in the bridal section of our local craft store. I have seen them lots of places. You will need to cut each strand in half. You use one half of each strand on each flower so you can make two flowers with one strand.

Step seven: Poke the half strand into the flower center as shown.

Step eight: Using your paper piercing tool, poke a hole in the Styrofoam heart where you want to place the flower. Put a little glue inside the opening and around it and insert the strand into it like this.

Step nine: Repeat the process until you fill the heart with flowers. Be sure to place the flowers very close to each other to cover all the Styrofoam. Felt is very easy to stretch, so you can stretch out some of the flower layers to cover patches that didn't get covered after you are finished. Remember to add flowers to the side of the heart because they will show.

Finally, embellish your heart. I used a sticker that said "made with LOVE" (Echo Park) and popped another heart for some dimension. I tied a bow with some ribbon and attached it with a pearl stick pin.

You could vary the idea to embellish a gift box or even make a flower topiary. So...what do you think?

This is a bit different from my normal style but it was fun to venture a bit out of my comfort zone!

Stamper's Dream JustRite Blog Hop

The newest JustRite stamps have arrived to Stamper's Dream store. To celebrate, the team organized a blog hop today to share some projects we created with the newest release.

For my project, I created a memory album using several of the new JustRite sets. It was our 9th anniversary last week and so I thought this would be a fun project to create. I intend to go back and add some pages of memories and writings to this in the future.

For the cover, I painted the chipboard album black and then added some October Afternoon designer paper. I used the sentiment from Cherish the Memories Nested Centers & Verse set . I love this sentiment for memory books and it even works great for a wedding card or baby card.
Here is a picture of the book slightly opened....

Here is a detail shot of the front page title. I layered the sentiment on a black mat and then popped it up over the delicate frame from the Baroque Nested Frames 3 Border & Center set. I added some flowers to the corners and some tiny silver dots. Then, I added another section of another frame below this for some added detail.

Here is the first pages of the book. I love how large this sentiment is...perfect for scrapbooking too! The A Perfect Day sentiment is also from Cherish the Memories Nested Centers & Verse set. The I Love You sentiment is from the All Occasion Nested Centers & Verse set. I chose to stamp it and cut it out for this page.

I used the JR Clear Horizontal stamper set (which comes with TWO clear blocks so you can see exactly where you stamp---a must have!) and the JR Brayton font to create the years sentiment. I stamped another frame as the background for this page.

Finally, I used the Happy Anniversary sentiment from the Baroque Nested Frames 3 Border & Center set for the last page.

I have so many other ideas for other memory albums I want to create. They are so much fun and don't take much time to complete.

Oh Scrappy Day!

Happy Monday!! Today I wanted to share a scrapbook page I recently created. I started out as a scrapbooker and still complete a few pages here and there but nothing like I did before I started stamping. My New Year's resolution was to start compiling an album of fun memories again.

I have to admit....it was so much fun. The pictures from this page were from when we went to Pennsylvania over Christmas and there was tons of snow. The kids had a blast

All of the paper from this layout is by Jillibean Soup. (You can see the names in the materials list below.)


<-----Here is a detail shot of the title. I punched out the snowflake and then adhered some of the blue polka dotted paper behind the punch. I then used that punched out snowflake on the layout. (Tip: The other two punched snowflakes were punched out from the paper underneath the vertical picture panel so I didn't have to use another sheet of paper!)

This picture also shows the stitching along the blue snowy "hills".

CSS Sketch Hop

Welcome to our first Center Stage Spotlight Design Team Blog Hop!

Jessica Fick, the Design Team Coordinator for GinaK Designs, has issued a challenge to all of the past and present team CSS team members to make a Christmas card with one of these sketches:



Here is what I came up with:

For my first card, I used an older Gina K set--Warm and Cozy Christmas. I simply stamped the image and cut out the boy (there is a tree behind him in the stamp). I used the "joy" sentiment in Warm Winter Wishes to stamp right next to him in the circle.

I added some red crystals in some of the snowflakes and added some icicle stitckles below his feet so this card sparkles a lot.

For this card I used two newer sets--Holiday Hospitality and Vintage Borders (sentiment). I used some of the beautiful new cardstock--tan leather and silver lining!

This was an easy card to make and I love how quick (and beautiful) cards are that are made with this ornament stamp. I finished this off with a big bow, made with my Bow Easy!

Gina K Preview Day 2

Hello! First....just have to shout it from the rooftops----We have a working refrigerator!!!!!!! Hooray......I am NEVER taking that for granted again!

My other happy news---I got something done so I could participate in this hop! Tonight, the Gina K Design team is previewing two new WONDERMOUS sets, First Christmas and Vintage Borders. They are both beautiful sets and I am sure you will see lots of amazing creations with them on the hop.

I used the Cardinal stamp in First Christmas (by Asela Hopkins) and the peace sentiment from Vintage Borders (by Nina Brackett) to create this card:
I stamped the bird with Memento black ink and colored it with Copics. I cut the bird out so I could place him on the die cut flourish. I pierced all around the border of the image and added some self adhesive nail heads to the corners.

I also used some of the new neutral buttons that Gina K is releasing this month. The blue background paper is from the digital paper pack- Vintage Holly (by Emily Giovanni).

This ornament can be customized with the year, name or even a picture on the other side! The ribbons I used on the top of the ornament are from Gina K Designs Holiday assortment and the Holiday Cheer Stamp TV kit.

*ETA: Sorry ya'll. Forgot to add that I stamped the bear on pure luxury white cardstock and colored it with Copic markers. I cut it out and then embossed it with clear embossing powder so it would be durable. I stamped right on the ornament with Memento ink (works fine!) and then adhered the bear and rhinestones. Hope this helps!

Lord of the Season Blog Hop

Hi There! The kids and I are loving having some company. What a great diversion for them to have their grandparents here....and adult company is always nice for me!

Tonight, the Gina K Design team is hosting a blog hop featuring the gorgeous new set by Nina called Lord of the Season. I chose to use more funky colors for this card--to illustrate that the images do not have to be used for formal cards only!

Hip to Be Square Hop

Hello! Welcome to the Gina K Designs "Hip to be Square" hop where members of the design team and some guests of Melanie are showing off some fun creations they designed with the set.

I have to admit---I LOVE this set. I really love the cool grid background (that so resembles a window!) It makes designing a card EASY. I have so many cards I want to make with it but today I am showing you the most recent two I have designed with it.
The first card combines Hip to be Square with two of Melanie's previous releases: Jumping for Joy and Inspiration Mosaic: (I apologize for the bad photo...we have been having a rainy month and I cannot get enough natural light to photograph my cards :( )

This was the first card idea I had with this set---I love how all these stamps from different sets go together so well. That sentiment is perfect. I created the moon by punching a circle shape and then just cutting away a part of it. I sponged the edges of the moon and then after I assembled the card, I colored with moon with a quickie glue pen and sprinkled Doodlebug yellow glitter on it. I punched a few white stars to add to the night sky.

The background cardstock is called sweet corn.

The second card I made is a fun Halloween scene. I paired Hip to be Square with Happy Haunting to create this card:

I brayered the mustard ink over some pure luxury white cardstock. I stamped the grid design over it and then I stamped the haunted house over it and then again on some yellow designer paper. I cut out the moon from the yellow piece and added it over the moon on the card. I added the grid line over the moon back in with a black pen.

The sentiment from Hip to be Square fits perfectly with this spooky scene. I mounted the scene on some heavy weight pure luxury white cardstock.

You melt MY heart

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for all your emails and comments--I feel very blessed to have such a supportive network of stamping friends as well as an AMAZING family. Last week my two girls got the flu and then I had some bad asthmatic nights from all the sickness going around and the very wet conditions here. Thankfully we were all well enough in time to enjoy some time with my husband before he left.

I know we will get through the next 7 months (or so!) and I KNOW that all of your prayers and well wishes are helping. Please continue to keep my kids in your prayers as the reality slowly sets in for them.

Over the past week, I chose not to spend any time blogging but I did make a few cards while my husband was out and about and the kids were in school.

Here is a card I created for the Moxie Fab Gradient is Radiant challenge. I wanted to represent gradient color in a different way than using cardstock or ink....so the gradient part of my card is the fun sun I created with ribbons. I selected ribbons in white, yellows (3) and orange to create the sunbeams.

I used Warm Winter Wishes set from Gina K Designs on this card.....and I played off the snowman and "You melt my heart" stamps by creating a fun sun to go with them.

I chose to stamp the snowman from the set without his hat and so I just rubbed the ink off the hat after I inked the stamp up and then drew in the top of his head after I stamped. EASY. I used a piece of ribbon for his scarf (just adhering it right over the stamped scarf!)

I stamped the sentiment in two colors---easily done by inking the whole stamp in pumpkin ink and then taking a black marker and going over the "You" and "my heart" part.

Finally, I stitched the little hills for some more fun texture and added some orange stickles to his carrot nose.

Fruitful Harvest Blog Hop

Hello! Tonight, Asela is hosting a blog hop with her newest set from Gina K Designs, Fruitful Harvest.

Although I don't make a lot of elegant, lacy, distres-y, vintage-y type cards...sometimes I just feel the need to try. I love the beautiful grapes in this set and wanted to give my card the same feeling I felt when I first saw them:
I added some lace along the side and some rhinestones under the "friend" part of the sentiment. The background is stamped with French Script backgrounder (SU!) and I used tea dye distress ink all along the edges (with a sponge).

The grapes are stamped twice....once on the background paper and once on white pure luxury cardstock. I colored them both in with Copics and the cut out the grapes on the white cardstock, adhering the section on the left right on top of the stamped one and adding some dimension to the rest of the bunch with some mounting tape.

Heeheee....the background purple paper is from a Halloween paper pack that was sitting on my desk!!!

Do You See what I see?

Happy Monday (or what is left of it!) Tonight, Nina is hosting a blog hop with her newest Gina K release called Elegant Verses.

I am sure you will see TONS of ways to use these beautiful quotes throughout the hop....and I was even going to create a card with JUST a verse but then I thought of a fun way to combine this set with her other set, Elegant Post.

You may not recognize anything from Elegant Post but I will get to that.....the beautiful verse that I stamped in the foreground and background is from Elegant Verses. Because I wanted the flower vase to stand in for the word "flowers," I simply inked the part of the sentiment I wanted to use and stamped.

Now....for the vase. The vase is created from the lantern image in the Elegant Post set. It is simple to make. When I stamped this image for the first time, I noticed that the main structure of it looked JUST like a vase. Do you see what I see? If not.......

Here is what I did:

I took the lantern stamp and used a black marker (water based--I used Stampin Up! black) and went over all the outside lines of the image. Basically, the only thing you don't want to ink up is the inside part with the bulb.


Then, I stamped it on some designer paper. This is what the image looked like:

Then, I cut around the outside lines of the image, omitting the swirls on the edges:

........ Leaving me with a cute little vase!

From there I just added some stems with my black marker and used a few flower punches (Provocraft) and added a few adhesive pearls to the centers. EASY!

First---I want to pass on a request from a fellow stamping friend. Erin Bailey asked me to help spread the word about a card drive she is organizing for her next door neighbor, Paige, who is 12 and recently had her arm amputated after a boating accident. Next--a card....
I stamped the main image twice on watercolor paper and then clear embossed it. I water colored the images with SU reinkers and a paint brush. One image is cut and layered on top of the other image.I added some crystal stickles over the flowers and butterfly.The sentiment is from Botanical Dreams from Gina K Designs .I used my Spellbinders circle, scalloped circle and oval dies to cut out the image and sentiment.
