A True Friend

Hello! Happy Tuesday!  Since we celebrated labor day here in the states yesterday, this is going to be one of those weeks that I am always a day off!  YES, I had to double check the day before typing that!

Well, today I have a card to share that I have worked on little by little.  I was trying to play along in the Moxie Fab Challenge: The Asymmetry Challenge.  In doing so,  I discovered that when you create a design that happens to turn out asymmetrical, that is one thing....but trying to create something asymmetrical is quite another.   I started off in several different directions but finally went with this design.   I like that the sentiment is in black to draw your eye toward it, with only a few other small details on the card being black to keep your eyes focused on the important part :). Otherwise, every other element was in 12 different positions before they were finally glued in their final place.

Supplies: stamps- My Favorite Sentiments (My Favorite Things);  cardstock- Ivory (Gina K Designs);  Patterned paper- Escape Collection (Little Yellow Bicycle); baker's twine- Ocean (The Twinery); sewing machine; ink- tea dye distress ink (Ranger), Memento tuxedo black (Tsukineko); ribbon-Offray; flower and pin- Wild Orchid; rhinestones- Recollections (Michael's).

Have a great day! Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Happy Joy Joy challenge

Hello there! Just popping in with my take on the Moxie Fab World Tuesday Trigger Happy Happy Joy Joy!  Here is the inspiration photo:

And here is my take on it:

This card came together in minutes.  I cut the Silhouette background (Rivka Wilkins) from yellow paper and then stamped the sentiment in pumpkin ink.  The sentiment is from Paper Smooches: Sentiment Sampler.

I added the multicolor strip of paper to get more colors in there and then used my Tiny attacher to add some mini staples to the side.
That's it. Easy mailer! :)

Thanks for taking a peek!

Home Sweet Home Inspiration

Hello!  Happy-whatever-day-it-is-today :P  I actually had some time this week and when I was looking over challenges for inspiration I came across the Moxie Fab World- Home Sweet Home Tuesday Trigger. Wow....I was instantly inspired by this house ornament:
Really inspired.  So inspired that I HAD to make a little house ornament :)  today.

I came up with my own design and I used some leftover fleece I had from a previous project and some fabric remnants.  I  folded the fleece in half (the fold is at the bottom so I didn't have to sew that part) and then cut out the sides and top in the shape of a house.  I decorated the front with fabric, felt, buttons, etc. and then flipped it inside out to sew the edges and stuff.   Here is what I came up with:

I kept the basic color theme and the fact that it is a house and went from there.  Created a cute little hanging house to display in my stamp room....or somewhere :)

Other supplies:
Sticker sentiments- Life is Good (SRM Stickers)
Dies- Fresh cut grass, Contempo Cage (bird) (My Favorite Things)
Vellum- The Paper Company
Baker's twine- Caribbean (The Twinery)

And....Since I am aware that I didn't follow the rules----I did create a PAPER crafted project that was inspired by the trigger as well:
Again, I was inspired by the colors and the house theme on this one...I definitely wanted to include the wood grain :)  I popped up the hand stitched heart with a Helmar Zapdot!  Love this quote and I thought it fit well with the house theme.

Supplies:
White cardstock- Gina K Designs
Patterned paper- Finally Fall: At the Patch (Bella Blvd), Little Boy: Rock Star; Playground: Red (Echo Park)
Sentiment stamp- Inkadinkado
Ink- markers-Red, black (SU!), Tea dye distress ink (Ranger)
Slit punch (SU!)
Dies- Homespun Dienamics (My Favorite Things)
Stick pin- Maya Road
Baker's twine- Honeydew (The Twinery)
Corrugated cardboard
Helmar Zapdots

That's it!  Hope you are inspired to play along!!! Click HERE to find out about all the challenge details!

Moxie Fab World Luminous Layers Challenge

Hello! I was looking through blogland looking for another good challenge and came across this week's Moxie Fab World Tuesday Trigger challenge. Here is the inspiration for this week: Sigh! This was just the inspiration I needed! Love the design, patterns...everything. I went with the overlapping large patterned scallops as the inspiration for my card:

To keep with the vintage feel of the dress, I used Echo Park's Life is Good patterned paper for this card. I cut each section using an oval Scallop (Spellbinders). Starting at the bottom of the card, I layered the ovals until I got near the top. I cut the final two ovals in half and then layered a piece of ribbon over the edge.

The stamps I used on this card are from Springtime Silhouettes (Gina K Designs). I stamped the butterfly image onto vanilla cardstock (Gina K Designs) using chocolate ink. I cut it out using a Spellbinders die and attached it with a piece of pink hemp. To finish off the design, I punched a small circle of the cardstock to adhere under a clear epoxy sticker. I stamped the sentiment on the bottom scallop.

Bright & Bold Moxie Fab Challenge

Yesterday, I created a few cards for the Bright & Bold Color Challenge for Color Inspiration for Card Makers Week in the Moxie Fab World . There are many color challenges going on over there in celebration of the new special edition: Color Inspiration for Card Makers . I decided to take a crack at this one.

The Bazzill Basics Paper color equivalents for this combination are Beetle Black, Lily White, Pink Fairy, and Tangelo Blast:

And here are my takes on the challenge!

For my first card, I based the design on the cool patterned paper from Echo Park- Be Mine. The patterned paper has white polka-dots...but I wanted to get some pink in there so I used a circle punch to punch a few pink larger dots and added them in. I cut a strip of the same pink paper (Be Mine Collection) and added it to the top of the polka dotted one, cutting a banner edge on it.

I used a Tangelo colored flower and then die cut a scalloped circle (Spellbinders) and added some black and pink rhinestones around the edge. I finished the flower off by adding a rolled pink flower (MFT Die-namics die) in the center.

Finally, I added the rub on from American Crafts and some fun twine by the Twinery.

Next, I went a little darker and used black as the dominant color on this card:

I stitched around the black cardstock and added a ghost flower. I punched a piece of patterned paper (Jillibean Soup) and added a pink button in the center. I cut a strip of the same patterned paper (just used the other side) to add along the side of the card.
The fun letters are by Cosmo Cricket. Again, I finished this card with some twine from the Twinery and a little stapled piece of patterned paper in the corner.
Finally, card three:
I used the beautiful doily image from Nana's Needlework (Gina K Designs) for the focal point of this one. The designer paper is by Echo Park (Little Boy and Be Mine). I added a strip of black cardstock along the center.
I added a big pearl to the center of the doily and a little polka dotted ribbon tie. Finally, I stamped the sentiment from Elegant Post (Gina K Designs) over the center piece and added a bit of stitching along the bottom.
That is it! It was so fun to play with these colors.
Gotta say, I didn't think I was gonna like these colors together...but after the first card, I was hooked. Guess I need this issue. LOVE finding different ways to mix and match colors.

Tuesday Trigger Tag!

Hi there! Well, I HAD to play along with this weeks Tuesday Trigger on the Moxie Fab Blog because I couldn't take my eyes off of the inspiration photo when I first saw it.
Here is this week's inspiration:
Yummy! Just look at the awesome colors!
I know you will want to play along too---just create a project inspired by the picture above and then add your link to the Moxie Fab blog.

Here is my tag that was inspired by the photo:

Did you see the little Christmas tree cookies in the top of the picture? Yep. I was inspired by those and by the gorgeous colors and all the yummy frosting. I stamped the script background from the Gina K Winter Wonderland Stamp TV kit onto the tag I cut with my Cricut Expression (woohoo!). I cut some tree shapes using the Winter Wonderland Cricut cartridge and some Echo Park designer paper.

To capture the softness of the frosting, I used some white felt (My Favorite Things) to line the bottom of the tag and cut it with the Jumbo Scallop die (My Favorite Things). I stitched along the edge of the felt hills to add some more texture.

Do you see the snowflakes on top of the cupcakes in the inspiration photo? I used Snowflake Wonder dies from Spellbinders to cut out the felt snowflake and added a sticker (Echo Park) on top before adding a pink rhinestone. The tag was sponged with some Tea Dye ink (Ranger).

That is it :) Thanks for stopping by!

Aloha!

Happy Monday!!

Here is a card I designed for the Moxie Fab Three Cheers for Chairs challenge : The paper scraps are from Cosmo Cricket (Snorkel) and the chair stamp is from The Journey (Gina K Designs). I stamped the chair image, colored it with Copic markers and cut it out.

Just a simple little card.....that takes me right to one of my favorite places---The Beach!

Enjoy your day! Thanks for stopping by!

Cut it out!

This week's Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger is brought to you by my friend Maren.....

<--She found this lovely plate in a Pottery Barn catalogue and created a beautiful card that was inspired by it.

I was intrigued by the simplistic elegance of it and wanted to try to make something understated and elegant.

I also used a bird on my card---but I created an one layer Easter card.....

Here is my card: It is hard to see what I did on this picture, so I took a few more so you can tell that the bird image was stamped in Versamark (so dark lines would not show) and then cut out....

I think you can see that it is a cut out much better in this picture:

I used some Prima swirl pearls to accent around the image, trimming the middle section where the window is:

Finally, I embossed the sentiment in white to make it pop on the Kraft paper.

<-----I took a quick picture to show you how I did the window. I used a Spellbinders rectangle die to draw the window on the card base (for stamp placement). Then, I stamped the bird in Versamark ink (so no dark lines would show after I cut) in the center of the rectangle.
Then, I drew the box lines closer to the bird...so the wings would touch the lines of the box.
I used my Fiskars pencil grip blade to trim all around the bird (as shown on left.)

What a fun challenge!

Old Country Christmas

Happy Monday!
Today I have a quick card to share. When I am thinking of some ideas for cards or just have a creative block, I often check out some of my favorite sites for a good challenge to get the juices flowing. I came across the Christmas in the Old Country challenge on the Moxie Fab blog and just had to give it a try. Here is what I came up with:I created a traditional old country "charm" card...using colors that I thought evoked a feeling of earlier times (cranberry tart, fresh asparagus) . I kept the design very simple because, to me, old country=simplicity.
I cut the tree shapes out of cardstock and inked the edges before attaching them to the card. I used a Martha Stewart punch for the heart and added a button with a hemp bow. The sentiment (from Warm & Cozy Christmas) is embossed on the red cardstock. A strip of Basic Grey doilies cardstock and some machine stitching complete the design.

Sometimes the perfect start to the week is a GREAT challenge!

Materials used: Stamps-sentiment-Warm & Cozy Christmas (Gina K Designs); white embossing powder, versamark, heat tool; cardstock-cranberry tart, fresh asparagus, kraft, white (Gina K Designs); button (Gina K Designs); hemp; heart punch (Martha Stewart); sewing machine.

You melt MY heart

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for all your emails and comments--I feel very blessed to have such a supportive network of stamping friends as well as an AMAZING family. Last week my two girls got the flu and then I had some bad asthmatic nights from all the sickness going around and the very wet conditions here. Thankfully we were all well enough in time to enjoy some time with my husband before he left.

I know we will get through the next 7 months (or so!) and I KNOW that all of your prayers and well wishes are helping. Please continue to keep my kids in your prayers as the reality slowly sets in for them.

Over the past week, I chose not to spend any time blogging but I did make a few cards while my husband was out and about and the kids were in school.

Here is a card I created for the Moxie Fab Gradient is Radiant challenge. I wanted to represent gradient color in a different way than using cardstock or ink....so the gradient part of my card is the fun sun I created with ribbons. I selected ribbons in white, yellows (3) and orange to create the sunbeams.

I used Warm Winter Wishes set from Gina K Designs on this card.....and I played off the snowman and "You melt my heart" stamps by creating a fun sun to go with them.

I chose to stamp the snowman from the set without his hat and so I just rubbed the ink off the hat after I inked the stamp up and then drew in the top of his head after I stamped. EASY. I used a piece of ribbon for his scarf (just adhering it right over the stamped scarf!)

I stamped the sentiment in two colors---easily done by inking the whole stamp in pumpkin ink and then taking a black marker and going over the "You" and "my heart" part.

Finally, I stitched the little hills for some more fun texture and added some orange stickles to his carrot nose.

Materials used: Stamps-Warm Winter Wishes (Gina K Designs); ink-memento black, black stampin write marker (SU!), pumpkin ink (SU!); cardstock-white (Gina K Designs), iced cobalt (Prism); various ribbons (SU, May Arts!, Offray); sewing machine; circle punch (SU!); Spellbinders scalloped rectangle die; Cuttlebug (Provocraft); corner rounder punch (Creative Memories); Copic markers; orange stickles (Ranger); stapler.

Hope it makes you smile!
